Have A Couture Closet Without Going Bankrupt!

Want to be High-Society or posh? Let's face it...not everyone can afford walking out of Saks with 10 trillion bags of designer pieces.
1. Play it Safe! Splurge on an item that has practical use. Stay away from one-time-wears!  Look for a dress  you can wear multiple ways or switch up with different sweaters/accessories.
--Halston Heritage Dress

2. Try not to stick with one designer. Have a diverse selection. Research new boutiques and designers that you normally would not think of...you'll be surprised at what you find. The fashion options are endless.

3. Go for age-appropriate pieces! (Keep timeless-ness in mind!)
--Genuine Pink Diamonds are hard to come by, expensive and only mined in very few areas. These will be forever unique.

4. Trade or Borrow designer pieces with a fashion-forward-friend.

5. Choose a piece that has potential to grow in value and purpose.
--Alberta Ferretti Long Jacket (It has boning, interior lining and all the elements of a jacket that could last you decades.)

6. If you want an edgy, high-fashion or avant-garde statement piece....make sure it is made by a credible designer who is established..not your local town seamstress!
--Designers who make whimsical, detailed, eccentric and edgy pieces:
Armand Basi, Ann Demeulemeester, Alexander McQueen, Altuzarra,
Bora Aksu, Zang Toi, YSL, Valentin Yudashkin, Cushnie et Ochs (now available at Bergdorfs!), Gareth Pugh,Thierry Mugler, Bouchra Jarrar, Miu Miu, Pollini, Anna Molinari or Pucci (in picture below)

7. "Get The Look For Less" is not reliable and may have you looking "cheap" rather than "chic"!
Almost all high-fashion designers offer no coupons, sales or discounts. Therefore you'll need to SAVE: Put money aside each week. Skip that mocha latte in the morning or that afternoon fro-yo treat.  If fashion is important to you, find ways to save in other aspects of your consumer life.
It is rewarding to own a designer piece because most edgy or unique fashion gets copied, marginalized and ripped off by department store brands like H&M, Forever 21, Zara, Target... A luxury item is luxury forever...that H&M dress is going to twiddle and fall apart at the seams after your 2nd wear or wash...trust me
